INSITE PHASE 2

The INSITE Programme was conceived in 2012 to produce independent science leading to a greater understanding of the influence of man-made structures on the North Sea ecosystem. At the end of 2017 the research funded under INSITE Phase 1 concluded, with papers from the research published in peer reviewed journals.

INSITE Phase 2 has been developed as a partnership between industry, NERC and Cefas to build on the science produced in INSITE Phase 1 and most significantly, facilitate first-time access to ecological data collected by industry during the course of their operations.

ABOUT THE TOOL

INSITE Interactive has been developed to provide visibility of the ecological survey data which is now being made available by industry partners to support research relating to the INSITE objective.

The INSITE Interactive portal provides access to geo-referenced descriptions of data in the form of metadata describing the survey to which it relates. Survey types include ROV asset inspections surveys, environmental baseline and habitat assessments and drill cuttings surveys.

Surveys can be searched by asset, survey type or via spatial search tools, and following NERC award allocation, requests can be made to data owners to access the survey data.

At the current time, this tool is restricted to use by those responding to the NERC funded Influence of Man-made Structures in the Ecosystem (INSITE) Call for Proposals. Access to the data-sets of interest will be provided to those researchers awarded grants under the NERC INSITE Call.

Please note: Although INSITE Interactive has been developed initially for the NERC INSITE Call for Proposals, it is anticipated that it will be made more widely available after the NERC Grants have been awarded; please register via www.insitenorthsea.org to receive notifications of future changes to the portal availability.

If you are a researcher applying to the Structures in the Marine Environment NERC call and wish to access the tool, please use the request form below.

The application process requires a Confidentiality Agreement to be agreed between INSITE and the user’s institution.
